Fortress Europe<\/h3>\n\n

This work asks how and where we position ourselves, how and if we want to move towards another space and a different Europe. A Europe that might be curious and open. A Europe that we encounter by making space, in which we have already found ourselves, in which and towards which we move, twist, and revolve, along with and around many other bodies\u2014a European Cosmos-Space.<\/p>\n\n

What happens when something does not simply move through space but as space, when an entire space begins to move? If it is not already pre-supposed, already established, pre-formed so that an action can be presented within it, but rather becomes the event itself? What happens when, instead of an individualized protagonist, a number of bodies carry out actions, without distinguishing one body from another? If a chorus like this does not speak but produces a space, defines it, changes it\u2014in other words, is a chorus of space? And what happens when the audience moves from its position in the dark to the illuminated center, framed by what is happening, the play around them always different, surrounded?<\/p>\n\n

The work is a sequence of images that each time differently defines the relationship of the participants\u2014among themselves, between the participants and the elements of the wall, and ultimately their relationship with the audience. The wall elements used always have two sides, properties, and functions: they open, restrict, exclude, and include; they open and allow; they are fixed, held, or carried. Sometimes their surface is foregrounded, at other times their gravity, their weight. Each performance is initially determined by a set of actions that remain the same, and in the second part, a set of rules that are different each time forms the basis of a real-time choreography.<\/p>\n\n
