“We are the roles we are called to play every day. The roles mix, one enters into another. It is certainly easier to live when roles are distinct, defined. (Only) then are we truly free (…).” \n \nA person stands still. Their head and body are wrapped in ropes of different textures, materials, and qualities. The ropes are tied at the top and looped to the floor, forming “weights” that define their identity: sexuality, religious beliefs, appearance, financial status, family, environment, sociopolitical position, origin, occupation, place of residence, profession, age, gender…<\/p>\n\n

The tangled ropes symbolize the multiple roles every person takes on daily, which ultimately may define how they self-identify and how others perceive them.<\/p>\n\n

The rapid switching of roles, the “success” in some or “failure” in others, can make a person feel stuck, insecure, and “lose control.”<\/p>\n\n

The audience is invited to help the fellow human by untying one of the ropes, giving them the freedom of choice, of personal exploration. The immobile person becomes the center of a circle, having a safe distance and space to “breathe” and decide who they truly are.<\/p>\n\n
